Prayers for Daily Consecration

DAILY and frequent renewal of our consecration to Jesus is the basis of St. Louis de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary.  By consecration, I refer to renewing our Baptismal vows: to reject Satan and all of his works and to make Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

Making Jesus our Lord is actually where most of us get into trouble. I would be confident to say most Christians agree wholeheartedly to accept Jesus as our Saviour. However, we tend to fall short at making Him our Lord. Making Jesus our Lord means to obey Him, and this is what we often fail to remember to carry out.

The frequent renewal of our consecration throughout the day will help us to advance significantly in our obedience to Christ. The idea behind this is to renew our consecration at least daily and also to begin to do it before every action we carry out.

The frequent renewal of our consecration will have a twofold effect:

  • Make us aware of our actions before we do them, and while we do them.
  • Be able to then offer them and ourselves as a spiritual sacrifice to God.

How to Renew your Consecration

The best way to frequently renew our consecration is by following St. Louis de Montfort’s instructions:

  • In order that the soul may let itself be led by Mary’s spirit (The Holy Spirit), it must, first of all, renounce its own spirit and its own rights and wills before it does anything.
  • We must deliver ourselves and leave ourselves in her virginal hands, like a tool in the grasp of a workman; by thinking or saying: “I renounce myself, I give myself to thee, my dear Mother.”
  • We must, from time to time, both during and after the action, renew the same act of offering and of union. The more often we do so, the sooner we shall be sanctified, and attain union with Jesus Christ.

St. Louis de Montfort gave us two short prayers to renew our consecration daily and before every action. Which I proceed to provide below:

Daily Renewal of Consecration to Jesus through Mary

I am all Thine, and all that I have is Thine, O most loving Jesus, through Mary, Thy most holy Mother.

Prayer Before Starting an Action

I renounce myself; I give myself to thee, my dear Mother.
